Purple Hooded Jacket
The Basic Hooded Jacket is made in a beautiful colored, baby yarn. It is a quickly knitted with size 11 knitting needles
Skill Level: easy
Stitches Used: cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease, picking up stitches, bind off, 3 needle bind off
Measures: girls size large: 16 1/2″ wide and 19″ long
Gauge: in stockinette stitch, 11 stitches and 13 rows = 4″ by 4″
Notes: increase means (knit through the front and back) decrease means, (knit 2 together or purl 2 together, depending on which side you are working on)

  • 3 skeins TLC Baby Amore, orchid – 286 yds (80%acrylic 20% polyester)
  • size 11 knitting needles (an extra knitting needle is also needed for the 3 needle bind off)
  • 6 3/4″ wide purple buttons
  • yarn needle

Back

  1. Cast on 52 stitches.
  2. Work knit 1, purl 1, ribbing for 4 rows.
  3. Knit 1 row.
  4. Purl 1 row.
  5. Repeat numbers 3 and 4 till piece measures 13″. (ending on number 3)
  6. Decrease, purl till there are 2 stitches left, decrease.
  7. Knit 1 row.
  8. Repeat numbers 6 and 7 till piece measures 20″.
  9. Bind off, weave in ends.

Left Front

  1. Cast on 28 stitches.
  2. Work knit 1, purl 1, ribbing for 4 rows.
  3. Knit till there are 3 stitches left, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1.
  4. knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl to end.
  5. Repeat numbers 2 and 3 till piece measures 13″. (ending on number 2)
  6. Knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl till there are 2 stitches left, purl 2 together.
  7. Knit till there are 3 stitches left, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1.
  8. Repeat numbers 6 and 7 till piece measures 20″.
  9. Bind off, weave in ends.

Right Front

  1. Cast on 28 stitches.
  2. Work knit 1, purl 1, ribbing for 4 rows.
  3. Knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, bind off the last 2 stitches made, *purl 1, knit 1* to end.
  4. Knit 1 purl 1, till there is 1 stitch left, yo, purl 1.
  5. Knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, knit 10 end.
  6. Purl till there are 4 stitches left, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1.
  7. Repeat numbers 5 and 6 till piece measures 3″ from the top of the last button hole.
  8. Knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, bind off the last 2 stitches made, purl 1, knit to end.
  9. Purl till there are 3 stitches left knit 1, purl 1, yo, purl 1.
  10. Repeat numbers 5-9 two times.
  11. Decrease, purl till there are 4 stitches left, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1.
  12. Knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, knit to end.
  13. Repeat numbers 11 and 12 till piece measures 3″ from the last button hole made.
  14. Repeat numbers 8 and 9.
  15. Repeat numbers 11 and 12 till piece measures 20″.
  16. Bind off, weave in ends.
  • Sew the back, left front and right front together till the sides start to decrease, sew the next 2 rows together, fasten off. starting at the arm hole, sew 2″ of the bind off seam on the top of each side of the jacket.

Hood

  1. Pick up stitches along the bind off edge of the jacket. (37 stitches)
  2. Knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl till there are 4 stitches left, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1.
  3. Knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, knit till there are 3 stitches left, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1.
  4. Repeat numbers 2 and 3 till piece measures 11″.
  5. Knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 12, purl 3 together, purl 3 together, purl 12, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1.
  6. Knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, knit 13, decrease, knit 12, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1.
  7. Bind off in 3 needle bind off, weave in ends.

Sleeves (make 2)

  1. Cast on 22 stitches.
  2. Work knit 1, purl 1 ribbing for 5 rows.
  3. Knit 1 row.
  4. Purl 1 row.
  5. Repeat numbers 3 and 4 till piece measures 5″.
  6. Increase, knit till there is 1 stitch left, increase.
  7. Purl 1 row.
  8. Knit 1 row.
  9. Repeat numbers 7 and 8 till piece measures 7″.
  10. Repeat number 6.
  11. Purl 1 row.
  12. Knit 1 row.
  13. Repeat number 11 and 12 till piece measures 8″.
  14. Repeat number 6.
  15. Purl 1 row.
  16. Knit 1 row.
  17. Repeat numbers 15 and 16 till piece measures 16″.
  18. Increase, knit till there is 1 stitch left, increase.
  19. Purl 1 row.
  20. Repeat numbers 18 and 19 till you have 42 stitches after a purl row, piece should measures 20″.
  21. Bind off.
  22. Weave in ends.
  23. Sew side seam.

Finishing

  1. Sew sleeves on to jacket.
  2. Sew buttons on the left front panel.
  3. Weave in ends.
