Basic Toddler Mittens
Skill Level: easy
Stitches Used: cast on, knitting in a round (with double pointed needles), increase (knit through the front and back), 3 needle bind off
Measure: 6″ long and 3″ wide
Gauge: in stockinette stitch, 22 stitches and 31 rows = 4″ by 4″
-Materials-
- 1 skein Caron Simply Soft, dark country blue – 315 yards (100% acrylic)
- size 4 double pointed knitting needles
- stitch holder (or thread)
- stitch marker
- row counter
- yarn needle
-Pattern-
Mittens (make 2)
- Cast on 36 stitches. Divide evenly onto 3 knitting needles. (12 stitches on each needle)
- Place marker, knit 1, purl 1, to end. (ending in purl 1)
- Repeat number 2 ten times. (total of 11 rows)
- Knit 1 row.
- Repeat number 4 fifth teen times.
- Knit 12, increase in the next 12 stitches, knit 12.
- Knit 17, place next 14 stitches on a stitch holder, knit 17.
- Knit 1 row.
- Repeat number 8 till piece measure 5 3/4″.
- Decrease, knit 14, decrease, knit to end.
- Knit 1 row.
- Decrease, knit 13, decrease, knit to end.
- Divide stitches evenly onto 2 needles. (15 stitches per needle)
- Bind off using 3 needle bind off.
- Divide the stitches from the stitch hold back onto 3 needles. (5, 4, and 5 per needle)
- Join yarn on the right edge of the thumb. (by the left side of the mitten)
- Place marker, knit 1 row.
- Repeat number seven-teen, seven times.
- Move marker, decrease, knit 5, decrease, knit to end. Divide stitches evenly. (4 stitches per needle)
- Move marker, decrease, knit 4, decrease, knit to end.
- Divide stitches evenly onto 2 needles. (5 stitches per needle)
- Work 3 needle bind off.
- Weave in ends.
